Man dies after being hit by ambulance racing to 999 call as police launch probe

A man knocked down by an ambulance as it raced to a 999 call has died. The unnamed 40-year-old was struck in the early hours of this morning. The incident took place as the man was walking on the A96 at Barmuckity, east of Elgin , Moray.

He was rushed to hospital but passed away a short time later. The road was shut for nearly 10 hours, reopening to the public at around 1.20pm this afternoon. Police Scotland launched an investigation into the man's death. And now officers have appealed to the public for information on the fatal crash as part of the police probe into the tragic incident, asking for anyone with footage to come forward. Road Policing Sergeant Dave Cooper said: "My thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died and we’ll do all we can to support them at this difficult time. "We've been carrying out extensive enquiries in the area however I’m keen to speak to anyone who witnessed what happened or saw the ambulance or pedestrian before the collision. "Motorists with dashcams who were travelling on the A96 between 3.00am and 3.30am today are asked to review their footage and bring anything of importance to our attention." Anyone with information which may be able to help the police with the investigation is urged to contact Police Scotland on 101 quoting reference 0494 of 22 February.
