Man finally admits murdering girlfriend, 24, in their shared flat
Joe Atkinson, 25, had previously denied killing Poppy Devey Waterhouse, 24, at their flat on The Avenue in Richmond Hill, Leeds.
Miss Devey Waterhouse, an analyst from London who moved to Leeds to work for bookmaker William Hill, was found with trauma to her head and neck on December 14 last year.Atkinson had pleaded not guilty to her murder in January and was due to stand trial in June.He will be sentenced on April 12.The pair were thought to have begun a relationship after both attending the University of Nottingham.
During the short hearing, relatives of both Miss Devey Waterhouse and Atkinson cried in the public gallery.An inquest into Miss Devey Waterhouse’s death has been opened and adjourned pending the outcome of criminal proceedings.
