A Vietnamese man's unusual medical experience involved a 9cm chopstick lodged behind his eye socket after a drunken collision with a friend. Doctors initially struggled to locate the object for three weeks, but a CT scan finally revealed its position. The man underwent surgery for removal and treatment for eye damage, with antibiotics given to prevent infection.

A 24-year-old man in Vietnam found himself in a rather unusual medical situation after a 9cm long chopstick became lodged behind his eye socket. The incident occurred when the man collided with a friend while intoxicated. Initially experiencing swelling, he visited his local medical center seeking treatment. However, for three weeks, doctors were unable to locate the object despite thorough examinations.

His condition did not improve during the observation period, prompting a transfer to a hospital for further evaluation. It was during a CT scan at the hospital that doctors finally detected the chopstick wedged deep within his nostril. The Journal of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Cases detailed the case, noting that the patient presented with pain and swelling in his left orbit, but his eye movements and vision remained unaffected. Despite the lack of apparent eye injury, the left eye exhibited swelling and a discharge of pus from the corner. The patient underwent surgery to remove the chopstick and received treatment for damage sustained to the bottom of his eye. To address the potential for infection, he was also prescribed antibiotics. The report highlighted the seriousness of the situation, emphasizing that the unsterile chopstick, having been used during a meal, could have introduced infection into the maxillary sinus and orbit.
