A man in East London was fined nearly £2,000 after authorities received numerous complaints about his dogs' excessive barking. The council investigated and found that the property was being used as kennels for security dogs, leading to a court case and a hefty fine.
A man in East London has been ordered to pay nearly £2,000 after complaints from neighbours about his dogs barking excessively. Syed Uzeir Iqbal, 35, was fined by Barking and Dagenham Council following a surge in noise complaints in February 2024. Environmental officers visited Iqbal's three-bedroom house and confirmed the noise was a statutory nuisance under the Environmental Protection Act 1990. An abatement notice was issued, warning him to reduce the noise levels.
Further investigations revealed the property was being used as kennels for security K9 dog units. Despite an initial fixed penalty notice of £150, Iqbal failed to pay. This resulted in a summons for prosecution for failing to abate the statutory nuisance, leading to a court appearance at Barkingside Magistrates' Court on January 28. Iqbal failed to attend the hearing and was found guilty in his absence. He was ordered to pay a fine of £660, council costs of £1,001.74, and a victim surcharge of £262, totaling £1,923.74. Local councillor Syed Ghani emphasized the council's commitment to addressing noise complaints, stating that excessive noise significantly impacts residents' quality of life
