Zaheer Abbas persuaded his cousin, Husnein Amjad, to kill his brother-in-law, Mr. Hussain, in a brutal attack.
A man has been found guilty of killing his brother-in-law, who was beaten to death in his own home. Zaheer Abbas, 45, from Weldale Street, Reading, was convicted at St Albans Crown Court after it was revealed that he assisted and encouraged Husnein Amjad, 25, to carry out the murder. The victim, 52-year-old Mr Hussain, was discovered with severe injuries inside an upstairs bedroom by family members in Fuller Road following rumors that he had married a woman in Pakistan.
\Further investigations led to Abbas' arrest and charging in June 2024 after it was established that he had 'groomed and manipulated' his cousin Amjad into killing Mr Hussain. Abbas is scheduled to be sentenced on April 11. An earlier trial revealed that Mr Hussain endured an hour-long assault involving a belt, kicks, and punches, which were recorded on Amjad's phone. Amjad, who was found guilty of murder, was sentenced to life in prison in December 2023 with a minimum term of 17 years. Abbas, while denying murder, was found guilty following an eight-week trial at St Albans Crown Court.\In a statement released by police, Mr Amjad's family expressed their profound grief, describing him as a much-loved 'father and husband' and stating that his loss 'has left a wound that will stay with us our whole lives'. They added, 'Due to Zaheer's direct responsibility and involvement, we have lost our father forever, and to some extent, our brother/son too. Sometimes it's people closest to you who intend for you the most harm'. Detective Chief Inspector Sam Khanna commended the family and witnesses for their bravery in providing evidence despite their fear of the defendant.
