Dennison Omeri found working in cannabis farm owed debt after being transported to UK
An Albanian man who was smuggled into the UK was found inside a Leeds house with over £166,000 of cannabis. Dennison Omeri, 30, had been transported from France to the UK and had worked casually renovating houses.
Leeds Crown Court heard on Wednesday West Yorkshire Police officers went to the property on August 18 this year after receiving reports it was being used as a place to harvest cannabis. The court was told that a yield of 16.6kg of cannabis was discovered, with an estimated street value of £166,650. Ms Barker said that in interview Omeri accepted he had come to the UK for a "better life" and said he had agreed to pay those who had transported him to the UK but had not paid them back.
