A Fairfax County jury found Kareem Valentine, 18, not guilty of murder and felony firearm use in the death of Joshua Fieldings.
A Virginia man was acquitted of second-degree murder on Friday in the killing of a man after an hours-long disputeAfter about six hours of deliberation, a Fairfax Circuit Court jury found Kareem Valentine, 18, not guilty of murder and felony firearm use in the Sept. 1 killing of Joshua Fieldings. Valentine was found guilty of juvenile gun possession, a misdemeanor charge that holds a maximum sentence of one year in prison.
The way prosecutors tell it, Valentine, then 17, knew Fieldings well in the months leading up to Fieldings’s death at 25.Fieldings, who was unhoused, resided behind a local Dollar Tree where Valentine worked as an employee. Valentine’s family would allow Fieldings to use their house to shower, do laundry, and eat. Authorities said Keisha Hill, Valentine’s mother, set up a CashApp debit card on Fieldings’ phone to give him money periodically.
