A 59-year-old man found unconscious on the beach in Seaside Park after possibly being struck by lightning during a strong thunderstorm Sunday evening later died at an area hospital, authorities said Tuesday.
Emergency workers brought Patrick Dispoto to a local hospital from the J Street Beach after a passer-by called at 7:39 p.m., Seaside Park police Sgt. Andrew Casole said.DiSpoto’s girlfriend told News 12 New Jersey he had left the beach ahead of the storm, but returned to try to“No one witnessed the incident so it’s unconfirmed if it was caused by the storm or another medical issue,” Seaside Park police said Sunday night.
