Luke Norman, 43, assaulted the woman after drinking vodka in a Nottingham pub, a court heard
A man has admitted to an 'out of character' attack on his girlfriend in Nottingham city centre. Appearing at Nottingham Magistrates Court on Wednesday, October 18, Luke Norman, 43, of Briar Court, Nottingham, pleaded guilty to assault by beating at the Bell Inn on Angel Row on June 28.
Magistrates heard that Norman was having drinks after work when he attacked his girlfriend of six months. Emma Wyborn, defending, said in court that Norman's victim has since been in touch with the defendant to mend their relationship. Ms Wyborn added that Norman's behaviour was 'out of character' and that he found it 'embarrassing' and 'difficult' to watch the CCTV footage of the attack. The victim was also grabbed by the hair, with the defendant 'putting his behaviour down to vodka', which he consumed at the pub.The court heard that, although the man was involved in no previous alcohol-related incidents, he has previously had drinking problems.
He then 'took matters into his own hands' and started going to a wellbeing clinic in relation to his alcohol problems. Ms Wyborn said: "Mr Nelson won't be drinking alcohol in the future and is seeking help in the community to prevent other incidents from happening in the future, however, that cannot be done overnight."
One of the magistrates present at the hearing advised Norman to 'keep going to the wellbeing clinic' as she released him on conditional bail. Court has been adjourned until December 6.
