Court hears accused told officers “he put the body into a freezer to preserve his father’s privacy and dignity'
A man has appeared in court charged with attempting to prevent the lawful burial of his father after police found his remains in a freezer.
In court today his son John Garrett O’Sullivan who lives in premises in the back garden of the family home at 30 Culmore Road, Ballynashallog, appeared before Deputy District Judge Philip Mateer charged with committing the offence, to which he made no reply, between July 1 and July 17. “Police forced entry to the property and immediately noticed the odour of human remains. A search of the property commenced in an attempt to locate Mr O’Sullivan. On entering the living room police observed a duvet leading to a fridge freezer that was switched on and running with a second freezer located next to it.
The officer said adult nappies had been placed on the deceased’s head and hands and a wet wipe was later found in his mouth.
