Matthew Rycroft was remanded in custody
A man has appeared in court charged with causing or allowing the death of a 12-year-old boy, who died after he was hit by a car on a motorway.
The youngster was tragically hit by a car in the eastbound carriageway, between junctions 25 and 26. The driver failed to stop at the scene. A 47-year-old man, from Bolton, was later arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was released on bail pending further enquiries.In a tribute issued through West Yorkshire Police on Monday evening, Callum's mother said: "Callum was a beautiful happy soul who was unique, great fun and larger than life.
He appeared at Leeds magistrates court in a brief hearing on Tuesday morning, reports Yorkshire Live.Wearing a grey sweatshirt and grey tracksuit bottoms, and flanked in the dock in court by two dock officers, he spoke only to confirm his name, date of birth and address.District Judge David Kitson told him: "All three matters are now sent to Leeds Crown Court. The first date for a hearing is 5th September. Between now and then you are remanded in custody.
"Matthew Rycroft, 36, of Nowell View, Leeds will appear before Leeds Magistrates Court charged with causing/allowing the death of a child in an incident on Saturday, 5 August. He was also charged with failing to provide a specimen.
