He kept up the lie for seven months, the court heard
A man has been jailed after pretending to be his brother when he was stopped by police while driving in Northampton. Grace Mbala, 31, of Gurnards Avenue, Milton Keynes, appeared at Northampton Crown Court on Thursday .
"The case was adjourned so police could inspect the document. After the hearing, police made contact by phone with Joel Mbala, who claimed to have no knowledge of the incident. Days later the defendant told the truth about the circumstances." From July 2020 through to February 2021, he maintained a period of deception by pretending to be his sibling to the authorities.
Iwona Zofia Boesche, mitigating, said: "All this has impacted negatively on most imbalance health but he felt too embarrassed to seek help. He did seek solace in the bottom of the bottle. Judge Geoffrey Kelly jailed Mbala for four months and he will serve half of that sentence before being released on license.
