Darren Gray became a major player in the dodgy dealings headed up by Aiden Talbot, whom he had worked for at the previous cannabis farm with his brothers Lee and Thomas Gray

A member of a drugs gang has been jailed for 17 years - a decade after he and his two brothers were involved in an organised crime racket which plotted to grow millions of pounds-worth of cannabis.

Ben Jones, prosecuting, described him as "lieutenant" to the ringleader, to whom he was "clearly subservient". Gray, 38, was said to be the gang's "bookkeeper and money man". His role had been to invest the substantial profits in legitimate areas, including the purchase of property in Spain. Gray successfully fled to Europe via the Channel Tunnel on July 24, 2020, four days after Talbot was arrested as he tried to make the same journey alongside his girlfriend in a BMW. However, Gray was finally traced on February 17 this year on a European arrest warrant, then extradited to the UK in March for his trial.

Gray admitted conspiracy to supply cocaine, heroin and cannabis and possession of criminal property. He was sentenced to 17 years. Sentencing, Judge Neil Flewitt KC said: "Your role in this conspiracy was primarily as the money man. You are described by the prosecution as a facilitator and accountant.

Prior to his 17-year sentence, Darren Gray and his brothers Lee and Thomas Gray, were three members of a gang of seven, locked up in 2013 after operating a multi-million pound drugs factory they set up in a remote farmhouse in North Wales.
