BREAKING: Man who killed coin enthusiast before stealing Beatrix Potter 50p collection is jailed.
An ‘incredibly dangerous’ coin collector who stabbed a fellow enthusiast to death so he could steal his rare collection has been jailed.
Danny Bostock, 33, repeatedly stabbed Gordon McGhee in a brutal attack at his flat and then tried to cause a gas explosion to destroy the evidence.Danny Bostock murdered Gordon McGhee for his coin collection He was also convicted of attempted arson being reckless as to whether life would be endangered.After a night out drinking in August last year, Bostock entered Mr McGhee’s Colchester home in an ‘opportunistic’ attempt to steal his prized coins.
The court heard that Mr McGhee, 52, intervened and he was stabbed 14 times, including a cut to his throat.His body was found in his bedroom and his collection, including limited edition Beatrix Potter 50p pieces, was missing.Gordon McGhee was described as ‘kind and helpful’ by his devastated family Police said DNA on the dishcloth matched Bostock’s, and that trainer prints at the scene were linked to him.CCTV at around 4.30am also captured Bostock as he left the scene of the murder.
Bostock, also of Colchester, Essex, was arrested two days later and attempted to frame an innocent man for the murder.Detective Chief Inspector Stuart Truss, of the Kent and Essex Serious Crime Directorate, said: ‘My thoughts are with Mr McGhee’s family and friends at this difficult time.He said that Bostock’s attack was ‘senseless and brutal’.They said: ‘As a dad he was thoughtful, supportive, encouraging and a whole heap of fun and laughter.
