A man who died after being knocked down by an ambulance as it raced to a 999 call has been named by police . Gary Dewar, 40, was killed in the accident near Elgin last Saturday, February 22. He had been walking on the A96 at Barmuckity when he was struck around 3.30am. Gary, from Lhanbryde, was rushed to hospital but passed away a short time later. The road was shut for nearly 10 hours while an investigation was carried out.
They have asked that their privacy is respected. “Our enquiries into the circumstances of the crash continue and I would urge anyone that was driving on the A96 near Elgin around the time of the incident, to get in touch. “I would appeal again to anyone who may have dash-cam footage to contact police on 101, quoting incident number 0494 of the 22 February, 2025.” Tributes were paid to Gary on social media with friends describing him as a “character with a huge kind hearted soul”.
