Adam Johnson died last year after being hit in the neck by an opponent's skate
An ice hockey player has identified himself as the man arrested after Nottingham Panther's star Adam Johnson died during a game. Adam Johnson died on October 28 last year after being hit in the neck by an opponent's skate during a match against Sheffield Steelers.
In a statement on fundraising platform Crowd Justice, the Canadian sportsman, who was arrested in November 2023 and has been bailed multiple times since, said the legal process had been "long and challenging" and asked for financial help. After thanking his teammates and colleagues, the 32-year-old wrote: "Initially, I had the benefit of insurance cover, but through no fault of my own, this has been halted.
"I am seeking help to cover some of my legal costs whilst I am subject to police bail, as well as additional costs if the matter proceeds to criminal court." He referred to Mr Johnson's death as a "tragic accident". Mr Petgrave has so far raised just over £5,000 and has a target of £300,000.
