A court claims the injured man was allegedly then challenged to a fight by the accused as he was treated in hospital
A man slashed across the neck with a boxcutter knife in Belfast city centre needed 60 stitches to his wounds, the High Court has heard.
Details emerged as McDonagh, with an address at Churchill Road in London, was refused bail on disputed charges of possessing an offensive weapon and wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. The wounded man named McDonagh as the person who had allegedly stabbed him and then left the scene. Police also obtained high quality CCTV footage from a nearby building which appeared to show the incident, the court heard.
McDonagh was subsequently arrested at Kingston, South London, on August 31 and transferred into police custody in Belfast. During interviews he initially provided a different name and date of birth, claiming that he had been living in London for the past four and a half years. The court heard the victim has since failed to attend identification procedures as part of the investigation, citing his fear at the situation and mental health concerns.
