A Chicago man who followed a car to an Elgin house and then shot two men inside was sentenced to 23 years in prison.
Giovanni Ramirez, 24, of the 3500 block of West 78th Street, pleaded guilty to aggravated battery with a firearm, a class X felony, in exchange for the sentence in a plea agreement accepted by Judge David P. Kliment, according to the Kane County State’s Attorney’s Office. Charges of home invasion, unlawful use of a weapon by a felon, and aggravated fleeing and eluding were dismissed as part of the deal. Both victims were treated at a local hospital. No information on what provoked the shooting was disclosed in the release. Ramirez was apprehended after witnesses told police they saw a vehicle fleeing the scene, allowing officers to pull it over for a traffic offense and take him and another suspect into custody, police reports at the time said.
