A second man is set to face trial for stealing vapes during riots in Sunderland.

Ashkan Kareem admitted to his part in the unrest on 5 August, during a hearing at Newton Aycliffe Magistrates' Court.

Durham Police said Kareem, 33, of Grey Street, Bishop Auckland, had been caught on camera throwing a missile towards a group of people during the unrest.A 47-year-old man, who faces the same charge, was refused bail and remanded in custody until his next court appearance.Meanwhile, a man accused of stealing vapes during the riot in Sunderland will face trial in September.

The 34-year-old was charged with violent disorder and one count of burglary during the unrest earlier this month. At Newcastle Magistrates' Court, the defendant indicated a guilty plea for the burglary charge but did not enter a plea for the violent disorder charge.More than a thousand people have been arrested in connection with violent disorder in parts of England and Northern Ireland that began after three young girls were killed in a knife attack in Southport on 29 July.
