He has been dealt with in court

A man with a "long history of mental health disorders" has learned his fate at court after attacking a care worker with a knife. Keith Fielding appeared in Nottingham Crown Court via video link from Wathood Hospital on Friday, June 9 as Judge Stuart Rafferty QC delivered his sentence.

The court heard how Fielding, of Watson Road, Worksop, who has a "long history" of mental health disorders, attacked a social worker with a knife at an establishment in Worksop on May 5 last year. The primary diagnosis for Fielding is paranoia and schizophrenia, the court heard. Having listened to evidence of Fielding's diagnosis, Judge Rafferty said that sending the defendant to prison would be an "absolute negative exercise"."The risk of him relapsing would be so much greater", the judge added. He imposed a section 37 hospital order, which means that the defendant will be sent to hospital instead of prison.

A restriction under section 41 of the Mental Health Act was also imposed. Judge Rafferty told the defendant: "I hope you get better soon if I put it that way. You have a big hill to climb."
