A thug who threw a glass and spat at police officers during the Rangers title celebrations avoided jail today.

Robert Bain, 24, assaulted constables Ross Falkingham and Gregor Park at Glasgow city centre's Queen Street on May 15, last year.fans gathered in nearby George Square that day to celebrate the club's Scottish Premiership title win.Glasgow Sheriff Court heard that there was"significant disturbance and disorder" that day.

Prosecutor Mark Allan said:"The officers observed Bain throw a glass in their direction, narrowly missing both."Bain then spat at PCs Falkingham and Park.Mr Allan added:"While waiting for a police van, Bain kicked PC Park in the leg, causing no injury despite the intent."He pleaded guilty to behaving in a threatening or abusive manner as well as assaulting the two officers.Sheriff Joan Kerr ordered Bain, of the city’s Castlemilk, to do 135 hours of unpaid work.
