The man's next of kin have been informed
Armed police have shot dead a man in his 40s after he allegedly began ‘making threats’ from inside a house in Bedfordshire. Officers raced to Aylesbury Road in Bedford on Monday night after reports that several vehicles had been damaged , only to find the man had barricaded himself inside the property and was refusing to come out.
Specialist firearms teams, negotiators and emergency crews swarmed the street shortly after 10.40pm, with officers attempting for hours to talk the man down. But just after 9.30am he reportedly presented a weapon, resulting in the armed officers opening fire, according to The Mirror. The man was pronounced dead shortly before 10.30am and his next of kin have been informed.
Homes along the street were evacuated during the tense stand-off, though residents have since been allowed to return as a police cordon remains in place. Bedfordshire Police has made a mandatory referral to the Independent Office for Police Conduct , which is now investigating the incident.
