An investigation is underway after a man was killed by police following an hours-long siege in Far North Queensland.
Police responded to reports of a disturbance on Love Street in Mareeba, west of Cairns, at 11:30am on Saturday, following reports a man had threatened self-harm.Police say the man had a woman with him and refused to let her leave.The man was subsequently shot by police.Community members have gathered at the address, expressing their distress and anger at the scene.
The Ethical Standards Command will investigate the circumstances leading up to the shooting, with oversight by the Crime and Corruption Commission.
