A rooftop stand off was brought to an end when a police Armed Response Unit shot a defendant twice with 'rubber bullets', a court heard on Saturday.

Defence counsel Grant Powles told District Judge Oonagh Mullan “there are substantial mental health concerns” regarding McLaughlin so the defence team “intend to look into that in terms of fitness to plead”. “The report was that the defendant was being abusive to his father,” said the officer who outlined that when police arrived, they heard “noises coming from the attic of the bungalow” and when officers went outside, they saw McLaughlin on the roof.
