A man says he's been left 'absolutely gutted' after spending eight weekends planting thousands of flowers on a mile-long stretch of road - only for the council to come along and mow them down.
A man spent £200 on tulips and daffodils in an attempt to brighten a dull roadside verge only for the council to cut them down.
Chris Truett planted some 2,000 bulbs on the once plain strip of grass on Rotten Row – one of the most iconic streets in Southport, Merseyside. It took the 51-year-old eight weekends to plant the flowers on the mile-long stretch and they bloomed earlier this month. But the flowers were mowed down at the height of their beauty when Sefton Council workers decided to cut the grass – leaving Chris gobsmacked.‘It’s pure madness at a time when the council don’t have the resources tountil the flowers had faded away.
