Emergency services have been searching for the man since the early hours of Friday morning, October 20.
The incident near Marykirk was reported at around 3am on Friday, October 20.South Queensferry and Montrose Coastguard attended the incident but due to the extreme flow of the water it was not considered safe for divers. The Inverness rescue helicopter searched the River Esk from the village to the sea.
Angus Council confirmed this morning that the A937 to Marykirk Village remains closed. Police Scotland told the Record that the rescue effort will continue today.A spokesperson for South Queensferry Coastguard said: "During the early hours of Friday morning, the team was deployed to Marykirk alongside the Montrose Coastguard team in an attempt to locate a person swept off the road in a vehicle by fast-moving flood water.
"Due to the extreme flow it was not safe to put any rescuers on or in the water, and the Inverness rescue helicopter worked with Montrose Coastguard to thoroughly search the area."
