James Cutler, a man from Essex, travels over 200 miles every week to run his popular bagel van outside the Derry Social Club near Everton Park on match days for Liverpool FC. Despite the distance, he is dedicated to providing freshly prepared bagels to fans before and after games at Anfield.
James Cutler, 38, runs Boss Bagels single-handedly, operating out of a van outside the Derry Social Club close to Everton Park. The van only operates on match days for Liverpool FC, and since opening in 2021 has become a popular choice before and after games at Anfield.
“The queue was well out the door. We went in, we loved it. I said to my partner, there's nothing like this locally in Essex, let's give it a go.” “I was doing this drive once a week, once a fortnight anyway. Obviously match days are a lot longer now. But I get to make a living out of it now.” Despite the risk of starting the business and the travelling involved, James felt confident Scousers would support him. He said: “I love it, I've always loved it. I think Scousers in general are very welcoming. I think they treat me as one of their own and I like to give back what I can.”
“If I have a dozen or so bagels left over, I take them into the Royal Liverpool University Hospital for the staff on my way home.”
