Manchester United transfer news as Chelsea midfielder Conor Gallagher becomes the latest player linked with a move to Old Trafford and it could have a big impact on Mason Mount
Manchester United are yet to get much reward for the £60million outlay on Mason Mount last summer. Despite arriving with characteristics and a style that looked suited to Erik ten Hag's style, his season never got going.
Heading into the 2024/25 season there are goals to see him be unleashed and utilised in a United side that could look quite different. Not only might there be no Jadon Sancho, Casemiro, Victor Lindelof, or Aaron Wan-Bissaka - let alone possible exits for Christian Eriksen and Marcus Rashford - but Anthony Martial and Raphael Varane have already gone.
The outlier here not only by first name but also style, is Gallagher. Having so far been stung by the transfer of Mount, and the understandable overlap and comparison between Gallagher and Moint, it would be easy to dismiss this. But there is certain logic to it. He is less attack-minded than Mount, who is ideally an attacking No.8 or even further forward, but still crashes the box when needed. Gallagher is tenacious in the tackle and is extremely mouldable, willing to play in a variety of positions.
