Victory for Manchester United over rivals Man City in the FA Cup Final would secure Europa League football next season, and with it a valuable revenue stream amid the club's FFP concerns
While there will be no Champions League football for Manchester United next season, a win in the FA Cup Final against rivals Manchester City on Sunday afternoon would punch their ticket to the Europa League.
The actual prize money for winning the FA Cup final sees the victors claim a £2million sum, while the defeated finalists take home £1m. Now the £2m isn’t going to change an awful lot for United, but what it unlocks in potential value for the Europa League can. There are an additional two games to be played by teams in the Europa League from this season, taking it to eight, with the prize money for a win standing at €450,000 , and a draw €150,000 . There is a league ranking bonus to be claimed, dependent on the final standings, and the prize money goes up incrementally in the knockout phases, with the winners scooping €13m .
United’s current PSR position sees them, according to figures presented by football finance expert Swiss Ramble and based on the club’s half-year results in March, in the black when it comes to their PSR position, but only by a £16m sum.
