Man United's pursuit of Nice centre-back Jean-Clair Todibo looks to be over due to a UEFA rule that came into place recently
Manchester United's transfer business has been a non-mover so far despite plenty of interest, yet Sir Jim Ratcliffe remains at square one in his transfer plans.
Since news broke that United had failed with their first attempt to sign Branthwaite, the candidates identified as alternatives has grown by the day. However, in the background, interest in OGC Nice defender Jean-Claire Todibo has continued to go under the radar. In July 2023, the Trial Chamber of the UEFA Club Financial Control Body laid out new rules that would affect multi-ownership clubs. The rule stated that 'no club owns or trades, directly or indirectly, in securities or shares of any other club participating in a UEFA club competition'.
That's because Savio is contracted to French side Troyes, who will be in French's second division next season. Despite being part of the City Group, a transfer deal involving Man City and Troyes is more flexible due to them both not participating in European competitions. The revelation that United will miss out on another centre-back target means they are back to square one in improving a vital area of Erik ten Hag's squad. There's still a number of options for them to sign but not landing preferred targets is far from ideal.
