Man Utd starlet Amad Diallo has been a joy to watch in the Championship and his loan season with Sunderland has set him up for life under Erik ten Hag.
Hype jobs like this can have differing impacts on the individual. For every Jude Bellingham who lives up to the adulation coming their way, there will be a Ravel Morrison: a player with immense talent who ultimately falls way short of their lofty potential. After working under Ten Hag throughout last summer, the head coach decided that he would not feature for Man Utd this term. On deadline day, he was sent to Sunderland on loan.Mason Mount, Conor Gallagher and Ben White are all recent examples who stepped up to the big timeUnited pulled off a masterstroke by picking Sunderland as his destination. He was joining a club brimming with optimism ahead of their long-awaited return to the Championship.
But it’s surely been to the liking of the coaches at Man Utd that he has passed with flying colours. Diallo has been one of the league’s most eye-catching performers and on his day he has been unplayable. He has produced his fair share of magic moments and Sunderland boss Tony Mowbray has said “he is an amazing footballer who finds the game too easy sometimes”.
And this will be vital ahead of a career-defining test over the next year as he battles to prove he can be an important asset as part of Ten Hag’s regime at Man Utd.
