Lytham man 'was paid £2k to open bank account' for fake PPE firm which took £130k of public money
A Lytham man has been hit with a ban on running businesses over his involvement with a firm that pretended to sell PPE during the Covid-19 pandemic and which claimed £130,000 of public cash it didn't deserve.
Most were identified as fraudulent but the company received £80,000 from a number of local authorities before the fraud was identified. CK Sales was also not entitled to taxpayer funding through the separate Bounce Back Loan Scheme, but nevertheless secured a £50,000 loan.The company was purportedly run from a base in Droylsden, Greater Manchester, but when the National Anti-Fraud Network investigated the firm, it found the building's landlord has never even heard of it.
Jack Thomas Lambert, 34, has now been punished by the Insolvency Service for his role in the business which he says was limited to being paid £2,000 to open its bank account and then act as a 'silent partner'. According to Lambert, of St Albans Road, he was approached by someone on a building site in January 2020 and asked to become a director of CK Sales.
Over the coming months, the business applied for submitted false applications for Small Business Grant Funds and CKS received funding through both the small business grand and bounce back loan schemes. In January 2021, Lambert resignation was filed with Companies House backdates to June 2020.
