Man who beat his son, 11, to death and lied about it jailed for 21 years

BREAKING: Michael Harrison has been jailed for life for the murder of his 11-year-old son Mikey.

Michael Harrison pretended his son’s injuries had been caused by him falling out a tree at Shipley County Park Michael HarrisonIn a desperate attempt to cover his tracks, he took the boy from their bungalow to Shipley Country Park before he called the emergency services.Harrison’s lies quickly unraveled as the nature of Mikey’s injuries became clear.

‘Rather than face up to what you had done, you made a call to the ambulance service to report that Mikey had fallen out of a tree.‘What you did that morning ended the life of a little boy and emptied the lives of many others.’ Peter Joyce KC, prosecuting, said shortly before 1.20pm on Saturday, June 18, 2022, Harrison made an emergency 999 call to report his son had fallen from a tree in Shipley Park.

An initial post-mortem examination found a large number of bruises and grazes ‘all of recent origin’ as well as a laceration to Mikey’s liver.
