The NSW Supreme Court today heard how Vittorio Stefanato shot Christine Neilan with a rifle in Lightening Ridge, NSW, before using a rope and wheelbarrow to drag her body across his property.
The elderly owner of a tourist attraction in Lightning Ridge, who shot and hid the body of a 39-year-old woman three years ago, has been sentenced to at least 13 years' jail.Key points:The 39-year-old woman had lived in Lightning Ridge with her mother for a few weeks when she went missing on January 8, 2020Vittorio Stefanato, 74, was jailed for a combined sentence of 18 years and two months, for the murder of Christine Nielan, with a non-parole period of 13 years and seven months’ today.
In the walk-through, he said he then used a rope and wheelbarrow to drag her across his property and out a gate where he left her in bushland.Officers found her body in bushland near Sunflash Street and Black Prince Drive the next day.A post-mortem revealed she had died from serious head injuries, and as a result, detectives established Strike Force Bullarook to investigate the circumstances surrounding her death.
Strike Force Bullarook conducted an extensive search of a property, and surrounding bushland at Lightning Ridge, between October 14 and 17, 2021.
