A knifeman who stabbed a young father to death in front of his partner and neighbours was jailed for life today. Mark Allison fled the scene and tried to hide the murder weapon while the witnesses battled in vain to save Gary Handling's life.
A knifeman who stabbed a young father to death in front of his partner and neighbours was jailed for life today. Mark Allison fled the scene and tried to hide the murder weapon while the witnesses battled in vain to save Gary Handling's life. The 25-year-old, who was at large on licence at the time of the killing following his release from a sentence for previous violence, was slammed by a judge for having shown " no remorse ".
He was ordered to serve a minimum of 21 years in prison - the so called "punishment part" of his life sentence - before being eligible for parole. Allison, from Stranraer, appeared for sentence at the High Court in Stirling, having been convicted in January by a jury at the High Court in Glasgow who watched CCTV footage showing the murder, and rejected Allison's claim that he had acted in self-defence. Judge Lord Young said Allison, then 23, had confronted his victim, Gary Handling, 33, who had a young son, on two previous occasion
