The scanners - which will allow passengers to carry over 100ml liquid - are now not expected to be in place until next year
Holidaymakers will continue to face strict hand luggage limits after Manchester Airport the deadline to install new security scanners was extended.
Manchester Airports Group, which manages Manchester Airport as well as East Midlands, and Stansted airports, estimates its scanners will be fully deployed by next year. Ministers have issued extensions of up to 12 months to several airports on a case-by-case basis, which is expected to be enough time for them all to complete the work. The government is also exploring how financial penalties could be imposed for further non-compliance.
