Manchester Airport shut its runways this morning after heavy snowfall overnight. In a statement released at 6.30am on Monday, January 6, the airport said its runways were temporarily closed and teams were working hard to clear them as quickly as possible. The airport added: 'The safety of our passengers is our top priority, and we appreciate your patience during this time. Please check with your airline for the latest flight information and allow extra travel time today.
' In a further update, Manchester Airport has now confirmed the runways have reopened but passengers are being warned their flights may be subject to delays. In a new statement, the airport said: 'Our runways are now open but, as a result of the earlier closure, some departures and arrivals may still experience delays. Please check with your airline for the latest flights information and allow extra time for your journey today. We would like to thank you our teams for their hard work in getting the runways operational again. The safety of our customers remains our top priority. Thank you for your understanding and patience.' The Met Office has issued a fresh yellow weather warning for snow and ice for Merseyside and much of the North West on Monday, January 6. It is the latest in a series of weather warnings issued for the region over the weekend, with a number of flood alerts also in place this morning (Monday). Arriva said all of its bus services across the North West will be subject to delays, cancellations and diversions due to the 'adverse weather conditions'. Merseyrail trains are also facing disruption as all services between Hooton and Chester have been cancelled due to flooding in the Hooton and Ledsham area.
