New scanners will mean people can bring larger liquid items in their hand luggage through Manchester Airport
Strict liquid rules for hand luggage were introduced across all UK airports back in 2006 after a failed terror attempt.
New security technology involves using computerised tomography scans to take a 3D image of the contents of the hand luggage. It also means passengers will no longer have to remove laptops and take them through security separately, making the process smoother and more efficient for holidaymakers.READ MORE: 'I spent £40,000 on my wedding and what happened ruined my life'
A Manchester Airport spokesperson said: "We continue to make good progress on the introduction of new security screening equipment, as part of the UK-wide programme. This is a complex programme of work requiring the expansion of terminal facilities, while at the same time maintaining operations during construction.
"This will see the new scanners in place on a large number of our security lanes by June 2024, with the full completion of the programme expected the following year."
