Manchester's Chinatown will host a vibrant weekend of celebrations for Chinese New Year and Lunar New Year, featuring a spectacular dragon parade, traditional performances, and delicious food stalls.

This weekend, Manchester city center will come alive with festivities to celebrate Chinese New Year and Lunar New Year. Chinese New Year falls on Wednesday, January 29th, and Manchester 's Chinatown will host a weekend of celebrations on February 1st and 2nd to mark the occasion, also known as the Spring Festival and Lunar New Year.

The city center will be transformed with red lanterns, music, performances, and family-friendly activities throughout the two days to celebrate the official start of the Year of the Snake. One of the most anticipated events is the dragon parade – a spectacular procession featuring a stunning traditional dragon alongside acrobatic performances, dancers, and drummers. The parade will commence at the junction of Oxford Street and George Street at 12pm on Sunday, February 2nd, making its way along Portland Street before concluding in Chinatown for a final performance on Princess Street. There will also be a night dragon parade in the Chinatown car park at 6.30pm and 7.30pm on Saturday, February 1st, while an illuminated dragon will grace the streets of Chinatown as part of the celebration's conclusion from 6.30pm on February 2nd. The festivities will also include a food market showcasing snacks, street food, and meals from local vendors. DJs will be spinning Cantonese and Mandarin pop songs on Saturday night from 8pm, while the Guizhou Acrobatic Troupe will deliver awe-inspiring performances on Sunday (2.45pm and 3.45pm). The events are free to attend and open to the public. However, attendees are encouraged to arrive early for the dragon parade to secure the best views. For those planning to celebrate in the city center this weekend, be aware of road closures and bus diversions. From 5am on Saturday, February 1st, to 11.59pm on Sunday, February 2nd, several roads will be closed. Accessible parking on Saturday, February 1st, can be found on Fountain Street (Booth Street to York Street). Several bus services will also operate on diversion from 9.30am to 3pm on Sunday, February 2nd
