The incident, first reported at around 8pm, is being assessed by Electricity North West officials - with electricity now restored to all but 12 properties according to the company's website.

He said that buildings around Great Northern Tower have been left without water due to the power cut earlier tonight and has received an update from the local building manager.Power has now been restored to most properties in the Deansgate area, according to an update from Electricity North West.An update read: "This power cut has been caused by an unexpected incident with the underground cable that provides electricity to your home or business.

In an update online, they said: "We didn't know before your electricity went off that this was going to happen but now we know, rest assured we will get your power back on safely and as quickly as possible."
