Excitement is building among Manchester City fans as links with prolific Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush continue. A player with 30 goals or assists this season is bound to attract attention, with both Liverpool and Arsenal linked with Marmoush earlier this season. Now City are ready to spend in January, their own interest has emerged in the £50m-rated Egyptian.
While City need a defensive midfielder and also hold interest in centre-back Abdukodir Khusanov, a striker isn't necessarily top of the list of priorities but would still be a popular signing - especially in a season where City have strangely struggled to score as often as they usually do. In Marmoush, City would not only be signing a goalscorer but a creative player, too. He has an impressive 18 assists in 65 appearances for Frankfurt in 18 months to go with his 35 goals, averaging a goal contribution every 95 minutes. 'He's responsible for producing danger up front, firing in goals and setting up others,' said Frankfurt boss Dino Toppmoller earlier this season. 'He's very difficult to defend due to his pace and how fast he can run in deep. He can also sneak in from close range, take a great touch and play some great passes. He's in outstanding form at the moment, and he's feeling comfortable. That's the key to his success these days.' Marmoush himself has also spoken of how he approaches decisive situations in attack, perhaps explaining his impressive return of assists. 'If there is a 30 percent chance that I will score a goal and my team-mate has a better chance and is in a better position, then I will pass the ball so that we can score a goal as a team, not just Omar,' he said, in what will be music to Pep Guardiola's ears. Frankfurt will understandably be reluctant to part with Marmoush in January given their third-placed standing in the Bundesliga and subsequent Champions League qualification hope
