Now, they face the formidable challenge of either Real Madrid or Bayern Munich in the next round.
Beyond the crucial qualification, the win against Brugge proved lucrative for City's finances. The Champions League offers substantial prize money based on wins, final position, and participation in various rounds. City's 22nd-placed finish in the overall standings generated £3.8 million for their prize pool. Their three wins and two draws across the eight Group Stage matches added another £6.3 million. Reaching the play-off round contributed an additional £840,000, bringing their total earnings from the Group Stage to £10.9 million.Furthermore, City received a guaranteed £15.57 million simply for participating in the Group Stage. This increased their overall earnings to £26.51 million. They are also eligible for a share of the substantial TV broadcast revenue. However, City acknowledges that they could have significantly increased their earnings. For instance, finishing eighth would have been worth £16 million in prize money, plus an extra £9 million for direct qualification to the last-16. An undefeated campaign, securing the top spot, would have been worth £22 million, supplemented by the £9 million for bypassing the play-offs. This indicates that City missed out on approximately £20 million in potential prize money, even though they could still potentially claim a portion of this if they progress to the last-16 through the play-offs
