Manchester City defeated Manchester United in a dominant performance, with Erling Haaland scoring a penalty and assisting in two goals. The win puts City nine points ahead of United and back on track after recent defeats.
United started well, but City soon put their stamp on the game and went ahead thanks to Erling Haaland 's first-half penalty. After the break it was one-way traffic, with Haaland doubling the lead with a free header from six yards, and the striker then turned provider to set up Phil Foden to seal the win.
On Tuesday, when United conceded a penalty at Old Trafford, Alejandro Garnacho cheekily scuffed up the spot while Copenhagen's players were protesting the decision, and Andre Onana proceeded to save the spot-kick. When Paul Tierney awarded a penalty to City in the first half of the derby after consulting the VAR screen, both Rodri and Ruben Dias ensured there would be no such dark arts this time.
It was the first penalty City have ever been awarded at Old Trafford in the Premier League, and it was their first at Old Trafford in over 30 years. It was also the Blues' first penalty in any derby since 2010. Even if it was a little soft, they wouldn't have complained after being on the end of a hugely-controversial, incorrect, decision at United last season.
After Foden completed another memorable win at the home of their rivals, the fans in the away end brought out their songbook of tunes mocking United - as well as doing the Poznan in the corner. Not for the first time. The travelling fans ended the game 'ole-ing' their team's passes and singing their popular song about Old Trafford falling down and the Glazers remaining in post at United.
