Manchester Day 2023 - what's happening where, when and what to expect at free family event
Manchester Day returns on Saturday, July 29, with a new look and a full day of free family events. There will be no parade this year, instead Deansgate will be transformed into a "seaside destination", while huge animal puppets and performers will roam the city streets across the whole afternoon.
Deansgate - 12noon to 6pm Deansgate will be the main hub of the Manchester Day on Holiday celebrations on Saturday, taking over the section of road from Peter Street right down to the Cathedral which will be car-free for the day. St Ann's Square - 12noon to 6pm Residents are invited to grab a deckchair and enjoy a relaxing summer’s afternoon of Opera classics, Indian brass music and salsa dancing to get in the holiday mood.
Street performers will transform the street, which leads down to Exchange Square, into a "jungle safari". We are told to expect a monkey on a bike and even giant snails heading around the town. St Mary's Gate - 12noon to 6pm This is the spot to head for those fancying a boogie. From Lithuanian dance to Bhangra, it will all be happening at the dance floor on St Mary’s Gate with a host of live performances.
St Peter's Square Budding cyclists will be able to try out top of the range balance bikes, take part in bike repairs and test out the city’s new e-cargo bikes.
