The Manchester Evening News Christmas appeal has exceeded its target after receiving two substantial donations.
The Manchester Evening News' Christmas appeal has surpassed its target after two substantial donations added over £11,000 to the campaign. The newspaper partnered with Blackley-based foodbank Humans MCR for the third consecutive year to support their Nobody Hungry at Christmas campaign. On December 23, they will deliver festive hampers filled with Christmas dinner ingredients, presents, and treats to over 1,000 people across Greater Manchester who might otherwise go without.
Last year, the campaign raised £13,844 thanks to the generosity of readers and a pledge from friend of the paper Michael Josephson to match all donations. With the current appeal standing at £8,000 and an additional £5,000 donation pending, it could potentially double last year's total. A significant £6,200 donation was received today (December 11) from Julie Perry Events, part of the proceeds from the celebrity event planner's annual Christmas charity lunch held at the Lowry Hotel on December 6. The event, described as 'glitzy' and 'super-glam', attracted local celebrities, influencers, and footballers' wives. Another £5,000 donation is expected from Andrew Geddes, vice president at Glaukos, a medical technology and pharmaceutical company specializing in eye disease treatment. These donations will push the appeal over its £10,000 target, enabling Humans MCR to fulfill their goal of delivering Christmas hampers to 253 addresses across Greater Manchester, representing 1,022 people on December 23
