This article takes a nostalgic journey back to Manchester in 1975, using archive photos to showcase the city's transformation over the past 50 years. From the construction of the Arndale Shopping Centre to the fading horse-drawn carriages of Moss Side, the article captures the essence of a city in flux.

Over recent weeks, we've taken a look back at what was happening decades ago through archive photos. Previously, we've revisited the years Margaret Thatcher became leader of the Conservative Party and the Vietnam War ended. It was also the year crowds queued to watch the films Jaws and Monty Python And The Holy Grail in the cinema. While in music, Queen first released their single Bohemian Rhapsody which topped the charts for nine weeks.

In Manchester, 1975 was the year the Arndale Shopping Centre was under construction, while a glimpse of a dying way of life can be seen with the last horse and carts on the streets of Moss Side, and a tripe eating contest that still brought the crowds to Canal Street. To mark 50 years since the year 1975, we've delved into the Mirrorpix and MMU archives to see what life was like in Manchester back then. What's clear from the photos is just how much has changed in the city in the space of half a century. View along London Road looking towards Piccadilly in 1975.
