Users of the social media site Reddit have had their say on the Manchester pubs and nightspots they miss the most
It's coming up to that time of year again when large groups meet in some of the city's friendliest pubs and bars to celebrate a work Christmas night out. While it's always a task to agree on which pub you're going to start off in, it's even worse to hear one of your all time favourite drinking dens has closed down.
Of course, you'll have your own ideas of which Manchester pubs and bars you miss the most - so let us know in the comments below. While user FaultyTerror posted: "I miss that place so much, what I wouldn't give to have a cheap pint by the fire on a cold evening." Hardys' Well This well loved pub at the junction of Wilmslow and Dickenson Road in Rusholme was sadly demolished last year. Previously known as the Birch Villa, the pub dated back to 1837 and later became known as Hardys' Well.
Reminiscing about Knott Bar on Reddit, user Dry-Strategy3777 remembered it as a "belting boozer". While king_duck posted: "That used to be a banging pub back when having loads of different beers on was unusual, pre-'craft-beer'." Tiger Lounge The Tiger Lounge started out as a night at the old Brahms and Liszt pub in 1997. It made its permanent home in the basement of 5 Cooper Street in 2004 - the former home of Oscar's nightclub once owned by George Best. It became a hugely popular venue thanks to its retro playlists, cheap cocktails and fun and friendly atmosphere.
The pub opened on the site of a passenger boat landing stage in 1980. Popular with Manchester city centre workers, the pub gained a reputation for serving up huge wedges of cheese, bread, and pate. For a while it created an acclaimed restaurant under chef Robert Owen Brown.
