The school in Newton Heath has had to shut its school hall after RAAC was found in the roof
An east Manchester primary school confirmed to have dangerous crumbling concrete says there will be no disruption to lessons. More than 150 schools across England have been told by the government they need to shut facilities - or put urgent safety measures in place - because of the presence of reinforced autoclaved aerated concrete .
It reads: "Following an inspection by the Department for Education, we received guidance on the afternoon of Thursday 31st August 2023 that we should not use our school hall due to the presence of RAAC-type concrete in the roofing," a spokesperson for the school said."However, the rest of the school will be open to our pupils as normal when term starts next week and there will be no disruption to classes.
Earlier today , Manchester Central MP and Shadow Culture Secretary Lucy Powell said children's education will be 'damaged' at All Saints, which is in her constituency. She said it showed 'real incompetence' the problem had only been raised days before the start of the new term. "At the moment, it looks like they're going to be able to manage around that for most of the pupils, but obviously any part of the building being taken out of use at this stage will damage their education.
