The Man Utd board is set to vote on selling a minority stake to British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
It has taken 11 months, but finally there appears to be an end in sight to the Manchester United takeover saga that has divided a fanbase and polarised wider opinion.
If you can't beat them, join them, right? Well, it doesn't necessarily have to be that way for all United supporters to get what they want in the end. Once that is in place, United can start planning properly for the future under Ratcliffe and he too can set about trying to convince uncertain supporters why he is the right owner to transform their fortunes.
Even with all the on-field struggles, United remains one of the most appealing sports franchises for investment, and there is still plenty of room for growth under the right owner. Neymar and Lionel Messi are gone, Kylian Mbappe seems certain to leave, and PSG are back to square one again, no closer to ever conquering Europe.
Even if you take a cynical view of him, he seems certain to care about the club more than the current owners, and there is an argument that United don't need Qatari money but rather an owner who puts money back into the club rather than taking it out.
