Man United remain winless in the new Europa League format after a 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce, despite Christian Eriksen scoring an excellent goal.
Manchester United remain without a win in the Europa League after a 1-1 draw with Fenerbahce on their reunion with former boss Jose Mourinho.
Manuel Ugarte has had a difficult start to life at United since his £42m move from Paris Saint-Germain, but his contribution to Eriksen's goal was perhaps his best moment yet. His passing might need work but his strength is in the defensive side of the game. Winning the ball back for the goal emphasised that, and he used the ball well, quickly swapping passes with Eriksen before finding a nicely weighted pass to Joshua Zirkzee.
The 32-year-old was a surprise inclusion in the starting XI against Southampton, but he took his chance that day and has been excellent ever since. United are short of midfielders at the moment, but when the likes of Kobbie Mainoo and Mason Mount return, Eriksen is doing enough to ensure he gets plenty of games.
It's the type of decision that will test Sir Jim Ratcliffe's new-look football structure. Eriksen turns 33 in February, and the summer of 2025 is probably the right time to say goodbye. Previous United regimes would have given an in-form player a new deal. Can Ineos look beyond these impressive performances?Once agan United conceded a soft goal on their travels in Europe.
Remarkably, they have led in five of those six games and have led 2-0 in three of them. The failure to hold on to leads in Europe is becoming a big issue.
